Ko Hikurangi Te Maunga Ko Waiapu Te Awa Ko Ngati Porou Te IwiBrought up on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, Tony has had a lifelong interest in the arts. Under tutorage from his brother Riki, Tony began carving 20 years ago continuing a family tradition which has been passed through the generations. As well as traditional pieces, Tony enjoys creating contemporary artwork which reflects not only his Maori heritage but that of other cultures as well. The materials used are primarily sourced on the West Coast, many of which have their own history before Tony begins his creative process. Punakaiki Crafts stocks a varied range of Toni's moko tane and moko wahine traditional maori carving masks from local timbers. we are happy to email through a photo of masks presently in stock. |
