| Few sculptors have Ian Boustridge's eye for greenstone/jade, his knowledge of this challenging material, or his passion for sculpting. A fourth generation West Coaster, he has remained close to the source of the stone: searching the mountains and rivers of Westland and recovering jade from areas accessible only by helicopter. Ian's sculpting reflects his empathy for jade's distinctive characteristics - bewitching translucency, colour, texture and strength. In the forms he develops, Ian pays homage to jade's natural environment: flora, fauna, rocks and water are recurring themes in his work. Since beginning carving in 1976, Ian has developed a worldwide reputation, exhibiting successfully in New Zealand and overseas and his work is held in many private collections throughout the world. True investments In 1987 National Geographic featured Jade. Ian Boustridge was named among a group of the world's best contemporary Jade Carvers, also named by Jade Authority Fred Ward as a master of the medium. Ian is among a new breed of Jade Sculptors, as they stand alone in the world for their individual style and skills. New Zealand's Jade carvers are sculpting a new page in the glorious history of Nephrite Jade.
